How to Build Confidence When You’re Just Starting Out in Beauty
Jun 15, 2025
Starting out in the beauty industry can feel like standing at the bottom of a really tall mountain.
You’re learning a new skill, trying to build a business, figuring out Instagram, and probably questioning yourself 100 times a day.
Sound familiar?
Confidence doesn’t come overnight — but it can be built.
And you don’t have to “fake it till you make it.”
Here’s how to start growing real confidence as a new lash artist or beauty business owner — even if you’re just starting out.
1. Focus on Progress, Not Perfection
Stop comparing your work to artists who’ve been lashing for 5+ years.
You’re not behind — you’re just beginning.
Every new set you do is a step forward. Celebrate your progress instead of criticising yourself for not being “there” yet.
Start documenting your work, even if you don’t post it yet. You’ll be shocked at how far you come in just a few weeks.
2. Keep Learning (and Don’t Be Afraid to Ask Questions)
Confidence grows when you know what you’re doing — and that comes from education and support.
Rewatch your training videos. Ask questions. Practise intentionally.
If your course doesn’t give you the support you need… find one that does.
Inside The Ultimate Lash Artistry Course, I personally respond to questions, review student work, and offer feedback so you’re never left wondering if you’re “doing it right.”
3. Create a Routine That Supports Your Goals
Confidence also comes from consistency.
Whether it’s setting aside time each week to practise, planning content, or checking in with your progress — having structure will help you feel more in control and less like you’re just “winging it.”
Use a planner, weekly goals, or tools like my Free Starter Kit to stay focused and intentional.
4. Get Support from People Who Get It
Sometimes the only thing holding you back is feeling like you’re doing it all alone.
Whether it’s a mentor, a course community, or just someone to remind you that you are improving — support changes everything.
That’s why I created Bluebell Beauty Academy — to give aspiring and beginner lash artists the mentorship and structure I wish I’d had.
5. Act Before You Feel 100% Ready
Waiting until you’re “confident enough” to start posting, charging, or putting yourself out there?
You’ll be waiting forever.
Confidence doesn’t come first. Courage comes first. Confidence is the reward you get after you’ve done the scary thing.
So post that photo. Take that model. Raise your price.
You’re more ready than you think.
